The fourth-annual CANtastic event came to a close Saturday morning with three banks taking home awards.

The team from Nicolet National Bank team won the people's choice award for their dandelion. According to personal banker Barb Harvey, in the movie "The Hunger Games" the dandelion represents spring, hope, survival and food.

Teams participating in CANtastic use cans to create a sculpture based on a theme. "The Hunger Games" was chosen as the theme for this year's creations.

Park City Credit Union won judge's choice with its Tracker Jacker, a wasp from "The Hunger Games."

"It was our first time and it was a lot of fun and we really love the fact that all the food and all the work that we put into this is going to go to the food pantry so I think it is definitely something that we are going to try to do every year," said Sidney Ring, branch manager at Park City Credit Union.

Associated Bank won the award for using the most cans. The team created a mockingjay surrounded by flames.

They wanted to use the main symbol of the "Hunger Games" series because in the movie it's a symbol of hope and perseverance.

"I think that [perseverance] is something that we can really see in our community with the food pantry helping others to get through hard times and keep going even when things are bad," said universal banker Amy Nowak.

All of the cans used in each team's creation will be donated to the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry and will help the pantry participate in the Feinstein Challenge, an initiative founded by a Rhode Island man who for the 17 years has divided $1 million annually among anti-hunger agencies nationwide. The amount received is based on the number of cans and monetary donations a pantry collects during the months of March and April. Each can or box equates to a dollar.

"I think (this year's CANtastic event) went real well, we had the most teams and I think we had the most enthusiasm," said Guy Hansen, executive director of the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry. "We didn't have quite as many cans as some other years but every group had a good time and we anticipate doing it again next year."
