Northwoods Research Summit participants explore economic development issues
The annual day-long conference is designed to explore economic, cultural and environmental issues and opportunities in the Northwoods. This year's theme focused on what elements make a community healthy and active. The summit was sponsored by Nicolet College, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Grow North regional economic development corporation.
This year's conference highlighted keynote speaker was Jerry Hembd, professor of business and economics at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, who shared stories from his own life experiences and research on what factors make up a local living economy. Hembd is also a state specialist in community and economic development with UW-Extension and co-leader of the UW-Extension Sustainability Team.
Other speakers included Naletta Burr from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Ron Skallerud and Michelle Madl-Soehren from Nicolet College, Dave Eckmann from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Erica Brewster and Tim Brown from Oneida County University of Wisconsin-Extension, Oneida County Board Supervisor Bob Martini, Ricker Floral from the Oneida County Lakes & Rivers Association, Leah Van Zile from the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, and Linda Conlon from Oneida County Public Health.
