Burmaster not chosen for Edgewood College presidency
Elizabeth Burmaster, who has served as Nicolet's president since 2009, was one of three finalists for the president position at Edgewood College, a Catholic liberal arts institution in Madison. Edgewood College officials announced today they have chosen Dr. Scott Flanagan to succeed current president Dan Carey who is planning to retire at the end of August.
While she will not be taking the reins at Edgewood, Burmaster remains a finalist for another job. She is one of four candidates being considered for the president position at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Ill. Interviews and public forums for the candidates have been held over the last two weeks. As it did last month when Burmaster was named a finalist for the Edgewood College job, the Nicolet College Board of Trustees Executive Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss "potential transition planning."
Flanagan, who will become the seventh president in Edgewood College's history, has a 16-year history with the college. He currently serves as the executive vice president.
"Our search for the next president was both nationwide in its scope, and very much informed by our own community of learners," Jan Eddy, chair of the Presidential Search Committee, said in a press release announcing Flanagan's selection. "In listening sessions on campus, we identified the needs of the college going forward. At the end of the search, it became clear that Dr. Flanagan is the best prepared, and the best qualified to step into that critical leadership position."
In addition to Burmaster, Robert Pastoor was also a finalist for the position. He is currently vice president for student life at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.
Burmaster had no comment on the Edgewood decision.
