Rhinelander Swim Club member Russell Benoy traveled to Madison March 1 and 2 to participate in the Wisconsin 12 and Under Short Course State Championship Meet. In order to qualify for the state meet, swimmers need to be members of USA Swimming and meet or exceed qualifying times in individual events throughout the season.

During the weekend meet, Benoy placed 22nd in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 36.57 seconds, took 41st in the 100 individual medley (1:14.27) and 20th in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.41). Benoy also teamed up with other members of the Northern Lakes Aquatic Club (NLAC) for three relay events. The young men placed eighth overall in the 200 freestyle, 400 medley and 200 medley relays.
