The Boy Scouts of Troop 660 are planning a trip to South Dakota and the Badlands.

To raise money they will be working at Culver's of Rhinelander on St. Patrick's Day.

The boys will help sell burgers between 4 and 8 p.m. on March 17. Culver's is generously donating 10 percent of all sales during those hours to the troop to help the boys make this trip a reality.

"This is the first time the troop has planned an adventure on this scale and the boys are very excited," the Samoset Council said in a press release. "It is estimated that the trip will cost about $3,000, including gas, food, camping and attraction entrance fees. Planned attractions for the trip include The Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, and Devil's Tower, as well as the Minuteman Missile Site. There are several hikes planned for the boys to work on their Hiking Merit Badge, and at the Mammoth site, an archeological dig, they hope to earn the Geology Merit Badge. The older scouts even have plans to do a little backpacking."

The council is hoping a big crowd will come to Culver's to help these boys make their dream come true.

The Flavor of the Day will be Andes Mint Avalanche.

Troop 660 is sponsored by Nativity of Our Lord Parish, but boys from any religious denomination are welcome to join. Troop 660 is part of Samoset Council, Boy Scouts of America.

"Scouting instills values of good conduct, respect for others, and honesty. Scouts learn skills that last a lifetime, including outdoor skills, first aid, citizenship and leadership skills, and getting along with others," the council notes. "Scouting has been instilling young people with the values and knowledge that they need to become leaders in their communities and country for over a century."
