The Diversity Club at Rhinelander High School focuses on acceptance. Pledging to stand up to abuse, four members of the club recently created a presentation to help other students understand the nature of dating violence, its impact, and how to get help when you find you are in an abusive situation.

Phoenix Bise, Megan Marvin, Anavay White, and Nick Wagler used dating violence skits to get their message across. The skits involved situations that demonstrate physical as well as emotional abuse, jealousy, and social media misuse. February was Dating Violence Awareness Month. During the last part of February and the first part of March, this group of students delivered 25-minute presentations during advisory periods to all ninth and 10th grade students at RHS and also to the junior and high school students of Northwoods Community Secondary School (NCSS).

The feedback from the audience has helped the group determine that their effort has been meaningful. In addition, these club members have stated that they personally have gained knowledge about violence, self-awareness, and self-confidence by taking on this peer education project. Mrs. Sue Hampton (counselor at RHS), Kerri Schmidt (district nurse), and Lynn Feldman (UW-Extension) are the Diversity Club advisors.
