Rhinelander is the defending state champion, having won the state title 16 times, including six of the last 10 years.
Eleven regional champions and five wild-card teams will be participating in the tournament this year. The other regional champions are River Falls, D.C. Everest, Appleton Xavier, La Crosse Logan, Middleton, Oregon, Shorewood, Lodi, Brookfield Academy, and Franklin. The wildcard teams are Superior, River Valley, Beaver Dam, Wauwatosa, and Christian Life (Kenosha).
Four rounds of competition will be held at the Dane County Courthouse on March 9. The rounds are power-paired, pitting winners against winners, until the top two teams in the tournament are determined. The finalists will be announced during a banquet on Sunday evening and they will compete for the state title on Monday, March 10, before the justices of the State Supreme Court, with Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson presiding.
Senior co-captains Amber Sheth and Lydia O'Brien are the only returning members of last year's state championship team. The other members of the team are juniors Mike Anderson and Erin Tenderholt, sophomores Anna Catlin and Emily Ditzler, and freshmen Ellie Rickman, Albiona Sabani, and Sydney Schallock.
The faculty adviser is Kathy Vick-Martini and the attorney coaches are Jim Jacobi and Mike Bloom.
