This was the second year in a row that AT&T has made a contribution to the group, which will help cover the shipping costs of just over 50 boxes.
"We look for organizations that are doing great things in the communities that AT&T serves and the Military Support Group came up as one of those organizations that's doing wonderful things and kind of one of those silent organizations that doesn't do a lot of promotions," said Robyn Gruner, director of external affairs for AT&T Wisconsin.
AT&T also worked with Military Support Group on the Cell Phones for Soldiers campaign which wrapped up this month.
The group left boxes out to collect unused cellphones that will be recycled and used to purchase pre-paid calling cards for soldiers.
This month they collected just over 300 cellphones.
"It was a great opportunity for us to partner with them, provide some funding to help support the care packages that they send every single month and help get the word out about ... the things they are doing in the community," Gruner said.
The Military Support Group is very appreciative of all the help AT&T has given them, as well as the chance for soldiers to call home.
"Some people will ask 'how long will you continue to ship these boxes?' and Le Roy (Eades, a support group co-chair) and I said 'until they come home,'" said Ray Zastrow, co-chair of the Military Support Group. "I'd like to thank all the people for continuing support of the Military Support Group and remind people that we still have a lot of troops overseas and we need to continue to support them."
The group's efforts haven't gone unnoticed.
"I too want to congratulate the Military Support Group for their ongoing effort," said Rep. Rob Swearingen. "What this really does it brings an awareness of what they do here on a monthly basis so when you have a great company like AT&T get together with the Military Support Group [to] support our troops it's a win-win for everybody."
