Shabby Cottage wants to help repurpose old, outdated furniture
There was furniture spread around the floor, some in better shape that others, but each with its own unique look. It's a representation of one of Micheketti's greatest passions.
"I'm a pack rat, so I can't pass up a piece of furniture that I think I can save," she said. "If I see something on the side of the road that I think I can save, or there's something free on Craigslist, I have to stop and pick it up and do something with it."
Now she's looking to bring that experience to her customers. Judging from the work she's showing off in the front of the store, she's more than qualified.
"Everything in here has been refurbished completely," she said. "I've put them back together, repurposed it, chalk painted it and anything else that needs to be done. There's a lot of repurposed furniture and vintage furniture too."
In the back of the store is where the magic happens. It's where Micheketti does most of her work and where she'll be teaching others a trick or two.
"It's the boneyard back here," she said. "Anything a customer sees back here, they can customize any way they want. They can pick out paint, and really make it their own. They can also bring in their own items and I can customize those for them too. We'll also be doing classes. I will be teaching people how to do pretty much everything I do in the store, like how to make your own paint, how to paint furniture and a lot more."
The doors are now open at the Shabby Cottage and Micheketti is already hard at work. She's placed a priority on Rhinelander and the surrounding communities, and is looking forward to interacting with her customers.
"I want this business to be geared toward local people," she said. "The prices will be geared toward people shopping here year-round. We'll have different seasons of things going on. If someone has their own piece of furniture and doesn't necessarily want to spend their money on one of the pieces in the store, they're welcome to bring it in and talk and I will give them pointers and teach them how to do everything I do in the shop."
The Shabby Cottage is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
