Woman charged with injuring emergency rescue worker
Abbie Renken, of Eagle River, was charged April 29 with one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and one felony count of battery to an emergency rescue worker.
According to the criminal complaint:
In February, a Vilas County sheriff's deputy observed Renken, 26, lean out of and eventually fall from a moving vehicle along State Highway 70 east of Blue Lake Road. Renken was intoxicated and trying to vomit, a police report states.
The deputy, Joshua Ciatti, approached the vehicle to check on Renken's welfare.
Ciatti observed that Renken was "highly intoxicated" and, according to the police report, "had very slow thick slurred speech and had a very difficult time putting sentences together."
Ciatti further observed multiple empty beer bottles in the vehicle and a bottle of pills.
A preliminary breath test confirmed that Renken had consumed alcohol.
An ambulance soon arrived, and as Renken was being examined, one of the ambulance technicians started yelling for help, according to the police report. The report states that Renken "was fighting with the ambulance crew members and being very abusive physically."
The victim reported that she was punched in the face and kicked in the back multiple times by Renken, and consequently, has suffered pain in her back and had discoloration and redness where she had been injured.
Renken was treated at Howard Young Medical Center where Ciatti, the deputy, reported that she was "very disruptive and very difficult to control." She was later transported to the Vilas County Jail.
Renken could face a fine of up to $11,000 and more than six years in jail.
