People can stop by the artists' studios from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The studios are located in Oneida, Vilas, Lincoln, Langlade, and Iron counties.
The event is very "open-ended." People can visit whichever artist they want on whatever day suits them and take their time.
"When I wasn't on the tour - and I did it as a guest several times - I would do a cluster one day and a cluster another day, or if it was a busy weekend I might do two studios and do it in the morning," said Ann Waisbrot, a landscape oil painter and public relations director for the Northwoods Art Tour.
The tour is a unique opportunity for art lovers as many artists don't normally open their studios to the public.
The talented artists range from photographers, painters of various mediums, color pencil, potters, woodworkers, glass artists, mixed media and weavers. One of the weavers has one of only two jacquard looms in the Midwest. This loom allows the weaver to create works that have an image on one side and its inverse on the other.
"[The tour] has a really nice variety of things for people to enjoy," Waisbrot said.
Waisbrot said the participating artists enjoy the face-to-face interaction with buyers.
"I find as an artist it's been a lot of fun to hear what people are interested in and talk to them about art and you get to talk about what you love to do for three days," she said. "If you have questions about different media and things people are very nice about sharing what works for them or what they do. It's just a really nice atmosphere that way."
Waisbrot has had aspiring painters come through her studio and ask questions about how she goes about her work. Some people stay a half hour, others only a few moments, she said. It all depends on what they are interested in.
Art will be available for purchase at the tour stops.
Waisbrot encourages anyone interested in art to try the tour.
"I think it continues because both the artists and the public enjoy it and it's kind of a win-win for everybody. The people really enjoy seeing the studios and hearing the stories about the work and meeting the artists," she said. "I think it's a real fun day and I think if you're at all on the fence it's an opportunity you don't get in any other weekend up here."
