Shakespeare in Three Lakes: Group of actors to present staged reading of 'As You Like It'
"This is a perfect play for a Northwoods community," said Tanera Marshall, associate professor of theater at UIC and a Three Lakes summer resident. "It is the story of a group of exiles from the city who find happiness, and love, deep in the beautiful Forest of Arden." It includes high and low comedy, mistaken identity, cross-dressing, forgiveness and redemption.
In this staged reading, the actors will sit with scripts before them. They will have rehearsed, with director Richard Corley, to make sure that character, story and emotions are clear without elaborate sets or costumes. Actors will sit or stand as needed, occasionally adding a simple costume piece to identify their character. This performance will also feature American folk music provided by Kathy Klein and Friends.
According to a press release announcing the performance, the Three Lakes Shakespeare Project hopes to start a yearly tradition of presenting Shakespeare's works. They look forward to partnering with musicians and other artists from the community to create entertaining and moving productions of the world's greatest playwright.
"As You Like It" will be presented for one night only, July 19, at 7:30 p.m., at the Three Lakes Center for the Arts. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for those under 18. Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts, by phone at (715) 546-2299 or through the website: tlcfa.org. This program is co-sponsored by the Three Lakes School/Community Arts Association and the Three Lakes Center for the Arts.
