Nicolet College CNA classes popular in area high schools
What's unique about the endeavor is that all of the students completed the program by taking Nicolet classes that were held right in their high schools.
"We wanted to make it convenient for students so we took the classes to them rather than making them travel to the Nicolet Campus," said Kathie Hubatch-Babcock, Nicolet Nursing Assistant instructor. "What's nice is that the credits count towards their high school diploma, the Nicolet certificate, and they transfer to many other colleges and universities."
Several students have already passed the state certification exam and are working as CNAs in the area. Other students plan to use the credits they earned as a steppingstone to more advanced diplomas and degrees in the health occupations, she added.
Last year Nicolet held CNA classes in four area high schools - Rhinelander, Tomahawk, Lakeland Union and Three Lakes.
Nicolet is working to expand the program to other high schools in the future, said Lenore Mangles, dean of Health Occupations at Nicolet. Any student interested in taking CNA classes should contact their high school guidance counselor.
