UW-Extension welcomes new WNEP coordinator

UW-Extension in Langlade and Oneida counties is pleased to announce the addition of a new Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program Coordinator to their team. Kim Brown began work on June 16, at UW-Extension's offices in Rhinelander and Antigo. She is originally from Michigan, and served with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic from 2007-'10 where she conducted public health and nutrition projects in poverty-stricken communities.

She has lived in Rhinelander for over and year and was working with Forward Service Corporation implementing a career and leadership development program in Rhinelander High School prior to beginning work at UW-Extension. Brown has an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Northern Michigan University, and has over five years experience coordinating community programs.

Brown's position with UW-Extension will allow her to use her education and experience to serve Langlade and Oneida counties, the Extension said in a press release. She will work closely with nutrition educators, community agency partners, state administrators and county residents to further develop the Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program (WNEP) in both Langlade and Oneida counties. WNEP is a UW-Extension nutrition education program that helps limited resource families and individuals choose healthful diets, purchase and prepare healthful food and handle it safely, and become more food secure by spending their food dollars wisely. WNEP is a federally funded program. As the WNEP Coordinator in Langlade and Oneida counties, Brown will provide leadership for the nutrition program team, secure teaching sites for implementing the program, and develop the annual program budget.

University of Wisconsin-Extension provides equal opportunities in employment and programming, including Title IX and ADA requirements. For more information, contact Kim at (715) 365-2750 in Oneida County; or (715) 627-6236 in Langlade County.
