The broomball tournament to be held in conjunction with the annual Rhinelander Lions Club Fisheree and Winter Festival is in danger of being canceled.

According to the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce, only three teams were registered as of Thursday and a fourth is needed.

The registration deadline is Feb. 3.

If a fourth team does not register, the tournament may be canceled, according to the chamber.

Culver's, Bucketheads and Bailey Edward are the teams that have registered.

Teams do not need to be from a business, they can be a group of friends, but each team must have a minimum of six players and three women must be on the ice at all times.

"It's an amateur tournament. We promote people going out to Home Depot, buying a wooden-handled broom and then we have a soccer ball and a couple of nets," said tournament organizer Kate Bauman. "You don't have to have any experience whatsoever, it's just a good time it's a day where we crown the champion for that year."

Winners get a golden broom and bragging rights.
