The brides were given ample time to talk to deejays, confer with photographers and sample potential wedding cakes.
"[The expo has] been wonderful. [I'm] pleasantly surprised with the turnout, especially with the weather [being as cold as it is]," said Sally Reuling of Anne Marie's, a Minocqua boutique. Many brides were interested in Anne Marie's jewelry and their registry for glassware and pottery.
Forth Floral had purple orchid arrangements in mason jars on display for the brides to peruse. Roses, hydrangeas, calla lilies and succulents have been quite popular this year, especially in burlap or mason jars, the vendors noted.
"[Planning weddings is] always fun. Every time I talk with the bride, you start getting excited and by the time we're done I'm always looking forward to doing the wedding because I think 'Oh it's going to be so pretty,'" Hempel said.
Eye Candy Cakes, a new vendor, displayed a four-tiered round cake that was dusted red on the bottom layer and became progressively lighter toward the top. Edible white roses with red centers spiraled up the cake. Eye Candy Cakes also had moist chocolate cupcakes with a creamy raspberry frosting that wasn't too sweet, along with other flavors that pleased the pallet.
"My style is kind of more shabby-chic rustic and I think that is looking a lot more popular right now, kind of leaning away from the more traditional wedding cakes, a lot of cupcakes, dessert tables are really popular so that's what I like to do," said Kora Rudisill of Eye Candy Cakes.
Rachel Boehlen of Mirror Image Photography said she tries to break away from the traditional wedding party photos were everyone is standing side by side. She likes to add various heights to add character to the photos and make them more unique.
"I'm just happy to be here and happy to be involved and meet all the new brides in the area," Boehlen said.
The fashion show, with its starry backdrop and gorgeous dresses in various styles, was a hit with the brides.
"I enjoyed the long [wedding dresses] with all the lace and trim along the bottom, those are my favorites. There were a lot of vendors, it was fun to go visit with everyone," said bride Kari Rader.
Ali Bruso, a bride and expo model, showed off several Alfred Angelo dresses.
"A lot of the bridal dresses are really pretty. They are vintage and nice colors and sparkly. I think they are all really unique," Bruso said.
There were brides new to the area who attended the expo to see what Rhinelander and the surrounding area has to offer.
"I think it is a really great experience, especially because I just moved up here from Chicago so I don't really know what is up here," said bride Melissa Conway. "I've been to one in Illinois and it's just kind of nice to see, help me get use to the area and know what's available to me as a bride."
