After enduring weeks of extreme cold, families were finally able to get outside for some winter recreation.
The fun day is a regular event at the camp, according to Maria Rudesill, director of outdoor education.
"It's our community fun day. We have them once or twice every winter, trying to get people out and about, just to give them something to do when it's nice," Rudesill said.
"This year especially, since we've all been trapped in the house so much with the extreme cold, it's so nice to have a beautiful day where we can go out and run around with the kids, get the families out here, go sledding, skiing, ice skating, play some broomball, all that kind of stuff - basically giving families a chance to get outside and enjoy being together."
The fun days accomplish a couple of different goals for the camp. The special events give area families something fun to do during what can be a dreary season and are an opportunity to show the public what the camp is all about.
"We hope that, first, everyone just has a good day together hanging out and being outside," Rudesill said.
"Also, it's a way for us to let people know that we're here and what we, as Crescent Lake Bible Camp, offer. We offer summer camp programs and our outdoor education programs as well as retreats throughout the year. Really, we just want to say, 'Hey, we're part of the community, come hang out with us and let us create an awesome adventure for you."
For the families in attendance, the pleasant weather provided the perfect opportunity to get moving.
"It really couldn't get any better than this, could it? We heard about this and were quite excited until the cold weather hit. That worried me a little," said Mary Johnson, who was enjoying the day with her kids.
"Then we woke up this morning and it was beautiful out. The sun's shining, it's warmed up, it's a perfect day for outdoor fun. And these guys are great here. It's a wonderful camp and we're so thankful that they open it up to the community so we can come and enjoy the winter while we can."
