So, for those who wish to burn those holiday goodies away, here are some tips from local trainers.
"I'd say the biggest thing is just develop a habit of consistently coming in, making it a point to come in consistently so you develop it into a habit so when you do eat something that you shouldn't, it doesn't affect you as negatively as it would if you hadn't been coming in at all," said Dan Chojnacki, fitness specialist and personal trainer at the Rhinelander Tone Zone Fitness.
"First of all take [exercise] gradually. It shouldn't be an all-out sprint, it shouldn't be five days a week. It should be more gradual because then they will be able to sustain it a little bit longer than they normally would if they went all-out," added Jo Santy, trainer at the YMCA of the Northwoods.
Chojnacki recommended 20 minutes of weights twice a week along with jogging, biking, and the elliptical. He also said exercise is unique to each individual and to consult with someone about setting personal goals.
"The ACSM [American College of Sports Medicine] minimum guideline is two days a week on weightlifting and two days a week on things like the bike and the elliptical," Chojnacki said.
Santy said the YMCA always has trainers on staff to help people reach their goals and take the right steps to living a healthier lifestyle.
"It takes time and nothing is going to happen immediately. It takes time to build up respiratory, strength, lose weight. It doesn't happen overnight," Santy encouraged.
