Donations needed for family displaced by fire
The YMCA of the Northwoods, 2003 East Winnebago Street in Rhinelander, is one place residents may bring donations for the Melissa Brenton family.
"We have a donation box here at the Y in our lobby so people can come in and drop off clothing, blankets, whatever is needed," said YMCA wellness director Chris Cook. "Anything people can donate to help them get back on their feet is more than appreciated."
Cook said household items are needed most but warm clothing would also be appreciated.
"There are two young children, a boy and a girl, but mostly we're taking donations for household stuff - sheets, blankets, detergent, things like that. The basics to help them start rebuilding, basically," Cook said. "If people have clothing for young children, anything will help - jackets, gloves, hats for the weather and things like that - but it's mainly the household stuff that we're looking for."
People are encouraged to bring in donations as soon as possible, Cook added.
The American Red Cross is also stepping in to assist the Brenton family by collecting donations through its disaster relief efforts.
Donations can be made on the organization's website at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
"The American Red Cross will continue to support individuals affected by this fire until all of their immediate needs are met," the organization said in a press release.
"This is why we're here, to help those that need it. Anyone who can donate even a little bit to help this family, it's greatly appreciated," added Lora Hainy, regional director for disaster services.
