Students in the School District of Rhinelander will have another day off Tuesday.
At approximately 1 p.m Monday school officials announced that classes would be canceled on Tuesday.
Director of Business Services Marta Kwiatkowski said the lingering cold weather prompted the closure.
"It's the temperatures again, the wind chills, it is going to be very cold. There's a wind chill advisory until noon (Tuesday), but obviously we can't have school delayed until noon so we are going to close (Tuesday)," Kwiatkowski said. "We're concerned about the kids standing outside waiting for the bus in the morning. That's why we made the decision, we want to make sure everybody's safe."
Classes are expected to resume Wednesday.
"For Wednesday, it's going to be 3 degrees during the day for a high, which is definitely not as cold as (Monday) and (Tuesday) so ... right now we're planning to be in session for Wednesday," Kwiatkowski said.
Students will have to make up the two missed days at the end of the year.
"We will have to make up both days," Jacobi said. "We already have two days added to the end of the school year, so hopefully we won't have any more."

With temperatures expected to drop into the double-digits below zero Sunday night and forecasted to stay there throughout the day Monday, School District of Rhinelander officials have decided to cancel classes on Monday, Jan. 6.
Superintendent Kelli Jacobi said the extreme cold weather poses a danger to students.
"We're closing for the safety of our students and staff," Jacobi said Sunday. "It's the bitter cold. The forecast hasn't changed for the better and that's what we were watching for, to see if there were any changes. So far, there's not and it's getting close enough that, the forecast is normally pretty accurate once you get within 24 hours."
Jacobi said a delayed start or a cancelation is possible Tuesday. A decision will be made Monday, she said.
"I'll be watching it. What I'm looking at is the time of the day on Tuesday when it's supposed to start warming up," she said. "If it's in the morning, then we may do a delay. If the temperature is not expected to rise until noon or later, then we probably won't have school. I'll make that call (Monday)."
