"Michael represents the fifth generation of the Carlson family to serve the funeral needs of Rhinelander and the surrounding community," the funeral home said in a press release. "Carlson Funeral Service has provided continuous compassionate and professional assistance to families in the Northwoods for over 100 years."
Carlson joins his father, Bruce, and uncle, John, as they continue the legacy of service started by his great-great-grandfather, August Carlson.
Michael attended Zion Lutheran Day School and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 2004 where he was an active member of the boy's swim team. He completed his undergraduate studies at Nicolet College while assisting at the funeral home. In 2011, he began classes in funeral service at Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Illinois, completing the program in 2012. For the past year, Carlson has been at Carlson Funeral Home completing his apprenticeship. He earned his funeral director's license from the state of Wisconsin this past December.
"Funeral service has been a big part of my life from the very beginning. I am excited to have earned my director's license and return home to continue our family's service to our community," Carlson said. "I look forward to the opportunity to assist the families of my hometown and continue the efforts of those who came before me."
Michael is an active member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church where he serves on the church council and as an usher. He is also a member of the Rhinelander Kiwanis Club where he enjoys meeting other service-minded people from the community. In his free time, Michael enjoys hunting and fishing and is an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and Indy Car Racing.
