Dana DeMet will succeed Lara Reed as the chamber's new leader, the organization's board of directors announced late Friday afternoon.
DeMet, a Harshaw resident, comes to the chamber after serving two years as administrator and later business manager at Palantir.net, a Chicago-based web development firm.
As executive director, DeMet will "lead efforts to support and promote the Rhinelander area's businesses, events and attractions to local residents and potential visitors through a number of events, programs and projects," the chamber said in a press release.
He will begin his new duties Monday.
"I am thrilled to join the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce and look forward to serving our local community members and businesses," DeMet said. "We're doing some great things here in Oneida County and I want to make sure that continues."
Brett Aylesworth, president of the chamber's board of directors, said he's excited for the perspective DeMet will provide.
"We know that Dana brings a lot to the table with his enthusiasm, energy and tech-world experience," Aylesworth said in a statement. "It's an exciting time for the business community in Hodag Country, and I think Dana will help us spread that message."
The Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce, which has more than 350 members, organizes several events throughout the year including the upcoming Hodag Home Show (March 22-24) as well as Art on the Courthouse Lawn, Hodag Hops and Vines, the Rhinelander Toyota Hodag Musky Challenge and more.
DeMet will replace Lara Reed who resigned her position as executive director in January to take a job with Ministry Medical Group.
Reed had led the chamber since May 2011.
