Bucketheads to host dart tournament to benefit Ministry Hospice
By Kayla Thomason-
"[The dart tournament] usually [has] a really big turnout, I think they usually have between 40 and 50 people that participate in the tournament," said Mike Hastreiter, owner of Bucketheads.
The cost to enter the dart tournament is $10 per person, per tournament. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. and the tournament will start at noon. $5 from each registration fee will go to hospice.
If there are enough participants there will be one tournament for women and one for men. If there are not enough players to split the tournament it will be mixed. Luck of the draw will determine partners and those who win will receive money.
Hastreiter will add $50 to the men's and women's tournament, as well as $100 to the mixed tournament, tournament organizer Trisha Schultz said.
Half of the winnings goes to hospice. Feight's Trophies will donate trophies for first, second and third-place winners.
Raffles are $1 per ticket, $5 for six tickets, $10 for 13 tickets and $20 for 30 tickets.
Some items that will be raffled off include Harley-Davidson jackets and clothes, oil changes, gas cards, some jewelry or jewelry boxes from local jewelers, and alcohol.
"Basically you don't even have to go and play in the tournament to buy raffle tickets, and even if you are underage, and come with an adult, you can get involved in [the event]," Schultz said.
Because the tournament is being held at a bar, underage participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Ministry Hospice and Bucketheads have been throwing dart tournaments to raise money for hospice three years now. This is the first year Ministry Hospice has done a bake sale at Sackett's.
People will be able to buy baked goods for as long as the dart tournament continues.
The goodies can be donated by anyone but each item must have a card stating what the dessert is and if there are any ingredients that may set off an allergic reaction.
Baked goods can be dropped off at Sackett's at 10 a.m. the morning of the event.
The cost of a half dozen cookies or a loaf of bread will be about $3. Pies, brownies, cupcakes, cheesecake, muffins and whoopie cookies will also be available for purchase.
"Bake sales usually do pretty well because we get all of the proceeds from that," Ministry Hospice Volunteer/Community Outreach Coordinator Melissa Houg said. "So people, even if they're not really a sweets person they'll buy it just to give away the baked good and give back to the organization."
Hospice volunteers will be pricing and running the bake sale.
Hospice will use the money raised to help those who have a terminal illness, with a prognosis of six months or less to live, who don't have insurance or are underinsured.
"Because hospice is paid for by Medicare and Medicaid, private insurances and for those that don't have any of that, Hospice kicks in with donations from events like these," Houg said.
The dart tournament will be held in the first two rooms of Bucketheads.
