A judge has sentenced former Oneida County medical examiner Traci England to one year in jail for misconduct in office.

England, 47, was charged approximately two years ago after being accused of taking tissue and organs from the bodies of deceased persons without permission and using the body parts to train cadaver dogs.

England was sentenced Monday following several hours of argument from the state and her defense counsel.

As part of the sentence, England will serve three years probation and complete 300 hours of community service.
