The James Williams Middle School wrestling team capped off a strong season by capturing the Central Wisconsin Wrestling Conference championship Friday, Jan. 31 in Merrill.

The Hodags had 12 placewinners and amassed 210 points, 66 more than runner-up D.C. Everest. Wisconsin Rapids, Athens and John Muir rounded out the top five.

Rhinelander had two individual conference champions. Jacob DeMeyer won the 112-pound weight class, going 3-0 with two pins. Dante Steinmetz won the 91-pound title, going 3-0 with a pin.

The Hodags had runner-up finishes from Tyler Olson (98), Jerry DuBois (152), Alec Kurtz (160), Zach Olds (175) and Colton Krueger (190). Richie Whitford (77), Rueben Guzik (105) and Nate Wolf (210) recorded third-place finishes. Scott Fox (136) finished fourth and Dante Suhm (265) finished fifth. Also participating were Eddie Bauer (85), Kenny Baumgardner (120) and Robert Kintop (128).
