Oneida County Fair is looking for volunteers and vendors
By Kayla Thomason-
"We are going to need as many volunteers from the community as we can get, even if they can volunteer an hour, any help, any amount of time definitely helps us out," fair coordinator Nancy Gehrig said.
This year fair organizers are offering a one-day merchant vendor space on Saturday, Aug. 2 for merchant vendors who don't have enough volunteers to keep a stand open during the entire fair.
New and old vendors, entertainment and sponsors are already contacting the committee to get their slots locked in, Gehrig said.
Vendor fees and departments that need volunteers are listed on the fair's website http://oneidacountyfair.wordpress.com/
Sponsors who donate money to a department, like Animal Alley, will have a banner put up to promote their business.
"We have actually been getting emails from people wanting to have a spot at the fair that we haven't had before so we are working with them and there are a bunch of new ones I haven't seen before," fair committee member Anna Gauthier said.
K & M Amusement will be setting up the rides at Pioneer Park.
The 4-H Club has been in the Oneida County Fair for a century and has enjoyed growing popularity. Last summer 4-H had over 400 entries in the fair.
"Well [the fair is] a real highlight for [the 4-H children] because they've done all this work during the year and now they get a chance to show it off and the fair becomes their home for those few days," 4-H Youth Development Agent Lynn Feldman said.
Planning committees are the first Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. at the UW-Extension office in the lower level of the Rhinelander airport, with the next one being March 4.
"This is our fair, we could not have done it without all of the community support that we got this last year," Gehrig said.
The Oneida County Fair has been in existence since 1896.
