RHS to defend title at regional mock trial tournament
The tournament is sponsored by the Wisconsin Law Foundation and will be held in the Wood County Courthouse in Wisconsin Rapids. Four rounds of competition will be held, with trials scheduled for 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. The tournament is open to the public.
Other high schools participating in the regional tournament are Lakeland Union, Merrill, Marshfield, Phillips, Stratford, and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.
This year's case involves a collision between a teenage pedestrian and a fellow classmate who was operating her vehicle with a probationary license. The pedestrian, the star player on the high school basketball team, was permanently disabled from the injuries he sustained. Both parties allege negligence on the part of the other. Students will play attorney and witness roles in the competition, which is judged by local attorneys and judges.
Members of RHS Team No. 1 are seniors Amber Sheth and Lydia O'Brien, juniors Mike Anderson and Erin Tenderholt, sophomores Anna Catlin and Emily Ditzler, and freshmen Ellie Rickman, Albiona Sabani, and Sydney Schallock.
Members of RHS Team No. 2 are sophomores Jarod Hoha, Faith Carris, and Bethany Stelbrink, and freshmen Erin Bloom, Max Holperin, Zack DuBois, and Matthew O'Melia.
The teams are coached by Kathy Vick-Martini, attorney Jim Jacobi, and Judge Michael Bloom.
