Wall of Honor added to Rhinelander Veterans Center
By Kayla Thomason-
"The castle is a Combat Engineer Unit crest from this unit so that's why we went with the castle," said Dan Keck, AMVETs vice chairman and president of the NCO Club.
The Wall of Honor is recessed with lights shining down on the black plaques with gold lettering.
Most of the plaques have a military theme, such as "serving with honor" or "in loving memory," and include the dates a person served in the military. Nothing provocative or slanderous is allowed.
People can purchase a small plaque for $25 and that includes two lines. A medium plaque costs $50 and includes three lines. A large costs $100 and averages five lines.
"On the large ones right now, some of [the plaques] have six lines but basically we like to keep it down to five so it's not quite so crowded on it but five comes out real good," said Le Roy Eades, building manager for the Rhinelander Veterans Center.
To purchase a plaque, contact Eades at (715) 360-0433, Keck at (715) 490-0531, or any other AMVETS member.
The proceeds from plaque sales will go toward the renovation of the veteran center.
Keck and Eades, along with other members, have put 120 hours into remodeling the building this December.
They want to remodel the kitchen and bathrooms and make one wheelchair accessible.
The Rhinelander Veterans Center is used by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), American Legions, AMVETS, NCO Club and the Military Support Group as a meeting room. It is also where they host their Christmas parties.
