'Little Log Church' in Bundy to observe 75th anniversary Dec. 28
It's the 75th anniversary of the first service held in the landmark near the corner of Highway D and Highway 17. Following over a year of felling trees, dragging logs from their forest lands with teams of horses and building a church with their hands, the building was ready for the congregation's first service on Christmas Day, 1939.
Sunday, Dec. 28, is the closest Sunday to Christmas this year, so the congregation will hold a short program after the regular 9 a.m. service and then members and friends will dig into a potluck dinner. Founded in 1937 for families in the logging community of Bundy, 55 members attended the first meeting and many were baptized, received instruction, were confirmed and a church council elected during the ensuing early years.
They built the church themselves, finishing it for Christmas 1939. Children and grandchildren of founders who attended that first service are still among "The Little Log Church" present membership.
