Gas stations were abundant in this photo of downtown Rhinelander from the late 1940s. There was one on almost every corner. Atlas Plywood covered what is now the Riverwalk Centre and a railroad corridor existed on what is now Courtney Street. With each closer look, we see buildings which are no longer there and empty spaces where there are now buildings. In the bottom corner is the old St. Mary's Church and school. The former junior high complex sits on the site of today's fire department and an empty lot is found where Zion Lutheran School now sits.
