NATH/Frederick Place selected as charity recipient from WASC Summit
More than 300 junior and senior high school students from around the area gathered to learn about leadership, get inspired and network. RHS Student Council Advisors Kay Coates and Allison Johnson organized this annual event.
In conjunction with the summit, each year a charity is selected for the council to support. NATH/Frederick Place reaped the rewards of the 2014 "Miracle Minute," a 60-second period where donations were collected from the students in attendance.
Internationally known speaker Eddie Slowikowski motivated the students and leaders alike with his enthusiasm, stories, music and dance. He often had the audience singing and dancing along with him.
Following Slowikowski's presentation, NATH/Frederick Place Executive Director Tammy Modic addressed the crowd and thanked them for selecting NATH/Frederick Place as this year's charity. Breakout sessions followed. A variety of topics were offered including "Charities and Service" which focused on giving back to our communities. Others included "Making a Good Choice," "Teacher Appreciation," "Team Work," "School Board Representative," "Who are the Homeless?" and "Are you a Leader or a Follower?"
Some sessions were presented by student council representatives while others were led by an adult working within the field of interest.
Modic shared information and statistics about the homeless and what goes into running a homeless shelter.
Student Council representatives from Rhinelander, Wausau, Amherst, Wisconsin Rapids, Minocqua, Wittenberg/Birnamwood, and Eagle River attended the event. Following the breakout sessions and lunch, the "Miracle Minute" collection was announced and a check for $235.67 was presented to Modic.
