Merrill woman faces weapons charge in Oneida County Court
Bonnie T. Wolff made an initial appearance Tuesday in Oneida County Circuit Court before Judge Michael Bloom.
She is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm with a repeat offender enhancer.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators with the sheriff's department learned through a tip that Wolff had a stolen weapon and was trying to sell it. After checking her criminal history, they learned Wolff had two prior felony convictions and had several outstanding warrants for her arrest.
After arranging a meeting with Wolff early Sunday afternoon, the report states the two undercover deputies paid her $800 for the rifle and two loaded magazines. They used bills with pre-recorded serial numbers. After completing the transaction, one of the deputies asked Wolff if she had anything that fired fully automatic, the report states. She allegedly replied that she could get a Thompson machine gun with several drum magazines and ammo that would cost between $3,000 and $4,000.
A backpack retrieved from the vehicle she had arrived in contained several cellphones, a plastic bag containing white residue and a razor blade with residue, according to the complaint.
In an interview with police, Wolff later admitted to stealing the rifle and magazines from a home in Lincoln County.
Wolff is being held in the county jail on $10,000 cash bond and a Department of Corrections hold.
She faces up to 10 years in prison on the weapons charge. The repeater enhancer could add four additional years to any prison sentence she might receive.
