World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is an annual celebration that is observed in more than 175 countries Aug. 1-7. In 1991 WBW came up with the goal to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. Exclusive breastfeeding yields tremendous health benefits, providing critical nutrients, protection from deadly diseases, and promoting growth and development, experts say.
This event gave breastfeeding moms and supporters of breastfeeding the freedom to normalize and celebrate breastfeeding. The gathering provided moms an opportunity to meet other breastfeeding moms in the community and to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week as a group.
This was one of the first events of this kind hosted in the Rhinelander area and many breastfeeding advocates were in attendance including many breastfeeding moms, pregnant women, dads, and countless little ones.
