The second annual garage sale benefiting Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault took place Saturday, Aug. 2. This year a bake sale and several vendors including Thirty-One, Origami Owl, Scentsy, Tastefully Simple, Slice of Life and Jamberry Nails were added to the event. Vendors donated to Tri-County 10 percent of their sales for the day. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the garage and bake sales were donated. The grand total, presented to Tri-County Council on Thursday, Aug. 7, was $1,847. These funds will be used to help purchase a security system for the new shelter.

"I suffered a tragedy last August, losing a dear friend to an assault by her neighbor," said rummage sale volunteer Robyn Reinke. "I decided I needed to start doing something in the community to bring awareness and to help survivors. Myself, my mom and a few friends got together and planned a sale last year in two weeks. This year we started a little earlier, collecting donations for gently used items. The community has been amazing. I'm so thankful for everyone who generously donated, borrowed tables and tarps, everyone that helped run the sale and for all of the people that shopped. This truly means so much to me. Every year I want to set our goals high and do bigger and better. Next year we plan on having a two-day sale instead of one and hopefully add a few more vendors. I'm really looking forward to it!"
