Bake sale and raffle to benefit Alzheimer's research

Moist zucchini bread, chewy cookies, delicious pies and other baked goods made by volunteers will be sold.
Cookies will be bagged by the dozen and loaves of zucchini bread will sell for about $3.
Approximately 20-30 people will be volunteering at the bake sale and over 30 businesses are donating raffle prizes.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Raffle tickets will be sold one for $1, six for $5 or wingspan for $20.
Raffle items will include wood carvings donated by Potlicker Sculptures, gift certificates from local restaurants, alcohol, gift certificates for a free photo shoots, a homemade quilt, a sight-seeing cruise for two donated by Wisconsin River Cruises, two gift certificates for free rental at Mel's Trading Post, a Brad Keselowski Miller mirror and a gift certificate for an oil change.
Brochures and pamphlets will be laid out at the event.
More than 5 million Americans live with Alzheimer's disease and over 15 million caregivers help those who have it. Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S.
"This will be our first [year hosting the bake sale]," said Chris Sackett, owner of Sackett's Bar. "We like helping out the community."
Organizers are hoping those who attend PotatoFest, which will be held the same day, will stop in to get a dessert.
Another local event to benefit Alzheimer's research is the Walk to End Alzheimer's, a two-mile walk on Lincoln Street to be held Sept. 20. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. followed by a ceremony and then the walk. The route will be marked by signs.
"The Walk to End Alzheimer's is a walk that people volunteer to do to help raise money, they go around and ask for people to sponsor them, they do fundraisers like the bake sale and raffle, they also do car washes," said Jennifer Dixon, organizer of the bake sale and a registered nurse who works with dementia patients on a daily basis.
Those who participate set personal goals on how much to raise. Dixon is aiming to raise $300. This will be her second year taking part in the Walk to End Alzheimer's.
Each year more than 400,000 people in over 600 communities nationwide come together for the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

"It's the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research," Dixon said. "I am looking forward to seeing everybody come together to support people who are having to deal with Alzheimers."
