Sheriff's office investigating alleged misuse of fire department funds
At a public meeting on Wednesday night, the Little Rice Town Board approved a motion indicating it supports the investigation.
After the meeting, a detective told a reporter that action "to go forward" with the case could occur by the end of the week, and that the matter would likely be referred to the Oneida County District Attorney's office.
The target of the investigation is aware of the inquiry, according to the detective. Authorities, including the detective and town officials, have declined to identify the target.
While The Lakeland Times has determined the target's identity, the newspaper is not revealing that information because criminal charges have not been filed.
