Hodag Water Shows, a non-profit organization that performs water ski shows free for the public and visitors to the Rhinelander area, is in need of a new building after a "devastating" winter-spring thaw caused considerable damage to the club's current building.

The Hodag Water Shows building is located in Hodag Park on Boom Lake. According to a club press release, the damage to the structure "goes beyond any normal repairs, as the floor and foundation are split and settling in four different directions."

"Much like the baseball building, and other structures in Hodag Park, the soil or base below the buildings has decomposing lumber, wood and sawdust underneath it from the days of several sawmills occupying the Hodag Park area," the club said. "New construction would involve proper footings, perhaps even pillars or peers under the floor, a compacted gravel base, and materials better able to withstand the movement in the Hodag Park area."

According to the release, the club had planned to replace the building, as well as undertake re-lighting and light pole projects, in the near future but the state of the building is such that the fundraising timeline has been moved up.

"After the recent never-ending winter causing a lot of damage, both projects will move to the forefront of the club's fundraising efforts," the release states. "The funds needed far exceed Hodag Water Shows' normal operating budget and fundraising."

Several events are being planned to help the club raise money. The first will be a large rummage sale on Saturday, May 3 at James Williams Middle School. The club is in need of items to be sold and customers to buy them. Donations may be dropped off at James Williams Middle School from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 2. The sale will begin at 8 a..m. Saturday May 3.
