Trees For Tomorrow Scholarship Golf Outing set for May 30
"This year marks our 70th anniversary of providing natural resources education, and we're hoping to break last year's record of 84 registered golfers in honor of that milestone," said Barbara Janesh, events coordinator for Trees For Tomorrow.
Money raised in the event will be used to provide scholarships for students who otherwise would not be able to afford to attend Trees For Tomorrow workshops. Proceeds benefit students from Vilas and Oneida counties, as well as students from throughout Wisconsin, Northern Illinois and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
"As these young people gain a better understanding of our natural resources and the importance of proper management, everyone benefits, especially those of us who have chosen to live and work in the Northwoods and depend upon the quality of those resources," Janesh said.
Trees For Tomorrow, a private non-profit natural resources school, annually reaches almost 14,000 people with its educational messages. Teacher/naturalists help students and adults learn about natural resources, and understand their importance to human survival and the need to properly manage them to ensure they are here for generations to come.
The Scholarship Golf Outing will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. at Eagle River Golf Course. The registration fee of $100 ($75 for Eagle River Golf Course pass holders) includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, breakfast snacks, and a buffet lunch.
Participants can also register for a variety of contests and participate in raffles for prizes.
