Lac du Flambeau MMA athlete to make professional debut
Frank Schuman, a Lac du Flambeau tribal member, recently signed a professional contract with King of the Cage, one of the leaders in promoting mixed martial arts events across the nation. He was awarded the contract during the King of the Cage World Amateur Championships that were held last October in Las Vegas.
Schuman trains at the Leadership Academy with coaches Jared Raths and Gary Engels. Raths is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Master Cleber Luciano. Engels is a fourth-degree black belt who founded a martial arts school called Leadership Academy in Woodruff in August of 2005. Schuman's training partners, Shane Cadotte and Jason Lande, will also be stepping into the cage to compete.
Schuman will face challenger and experienced veteran Ron Imholf of East Moline, Ill. Imholf has a 6-4 professional record entering into the matchup with Schuman.
"I'm so honored to start my professional career right here in my hometown with my family and friends cheering me on. I'm ready for this challenge and I want to prove to myself and my hometown that I have what it takes as a professional MMA athlete," Schuman said.
In addition, the fight card for "Clockwork" will include Isaiah Pitts, who is undefeated in his professional career, returning to the cage to face Chris Hicks. Also, Brittany Dugas will square off against Calie Cutler. Shane Cadotte and Chuck Hoskins are also featured on the pro card.
Doors to King of the Cage "Clockwork" open at 6 p.m. and fights will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $65, $45 and $30, and can be purchased online at www.lakeofthetorches.com or by calling 1-800-25-TORCH. Spectators must be 18 to enter. Ages 14-17 are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
