Rhinelander High School sophomore Braeden Bell recently competed in Mosinee at the regional Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Having taken ProStart in high school this year, he chose pastry arts and baking as his competition. This event judges students on their ability to take a surprise recipe and complete the making of the product within two hours. Safety, sanitation, and culinary skills are evaluated. Bell took home a gold medal at the event and qualified for the state competition which was held March 31 through April 2 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.

"Bell spent many long afternoons practicing four new recipes to prepare for the state competition," Community Education Coordinator Mike Cheslock said in a press release announcing Bell's achievement. "His hard work paid off in the form of a silver medal. Braeden is already looking forward to next year and is thinking about the team culinary event where a team of four students prepare an entire meal under the watchful eye of chef judges."
