RBA eighth graders place 20th at state
Rhinelander finished third in its pool, going 1-2 in pool play. The Hodags started with a 52-42 loss to Shawano, rebounded with a 42-36 win over Slinger, but relinquished a fourth-quarter lead and lost to Waterford 44-40.
That put the Hodags in an eight-team bracket playing for 17th place. Rhinelander won its quarterfinal game 50-45 over La Crosse Logan, but lost to Merrill 50-21 in the semifinals. The Hodags concluded the tournament with a 50-36 loss to Holmen.
The Hodags finished the season with a 19-7 record. Team members include Max Brown, Bradley Comer, Reese Flores, Logan Freund, Jon Huempfner, Markus Johnson, Logan Keso, Brad Quade, Cody Sedlacek and Owen White. The team is coached by Shaun Smith and Jordan Schmidt.
RBA fifth graders take 16th
The RBA fifth-grade boys' traveling team also participated in the Wisconsin Sate Invitational Championship Tournament, taking 16th out of 21 teams in Division 2 March 29 and 30 in the Fox Cities area.
The Hodags went winless in pool play, falling to Grafton 48-45 and Xavier 52-22 but their margin of defeat was small enough to qualify for the round of 16. The Hodags lost to Holmen 52-46 in the round of 16, New Berlin West 47-29 in the consolation quarterfinals, Waunakee 34-20 in the consolation semifinals and McFarland 32-23 in the 15th-place game.
