The Rhinelander Friendship House restaurant hosted a fundraiser Monday benefiting the Rhinelander police and fire departments.

Police officers and firefighters greeted guests, showed them to their seats, brought them drinks and bussed tables.

"I think [the fundraiser went] well," said firefighter Jim Plautz. "We had to learn everything in a short period of time."

Tony Sabani, owner of Friendship House, was impressed with how well the department personnel did during the event, especially since some of them had no restaurant experience.

"I'd like to thank the community for supporting them too, for coming today and I'd like to thank the police and fire departments for doing their job, for keeping us safe and the community," Sabani said.

The departments will split the $2,840 raised during the event.

The Rhinelander Fire Department will use their share for new equipment and training for the firefighters.

The Rhinelander Police Department will use the money for its K-9 Department, D.A.R.E program and criminal justice scholarship.

"We'd just like to thank Tony for allowing us to come in and do this," Officer Elisha Williams added.
