Captain McCloskey and WASB Executive Director John Ashley presented member recognition awards. The awards presentation was followed by the re-election of Captain McCloskey to the region director position. The program featured Michele Nickels, CESA 9, who gave an overview of the Wisconsin Virtual Schools. Brian Fritz, Three Lakes football coach, gave a spirited presentation about 8 Man Football in the Northwood and its successes.
Dan Rossmiller, WASB Director of Government Relations, then gave a legislative update. John Preuss of M3 Insurance talked about the use of Wellness Programs to increase student achievement. WASB Associate Executive Director/Staff Counsel Barry Forbes discussed Employee Compensation Systems. The evening's program ended with Executive Director John Ashley giving the director's report. He highlighted the WASB's "Stand Up for Public Education" initiative and encouraged everyone to share their school's story.
According to the association, "(a) strong public education is vital to ensuring that every child has access to an ever-widening base of knowledge so that our nation continues to succeed." The WASB Stand Up for Public Education campaign helps local school districts spread the word about their students' successes and how they benefit their communities." Region 2 school districts are CESA 9, Chequamegon, Crandon, Elcho, Florence, Hurley, Lac du Flambeau #1, Lakeland, Laona, Mercer, Minocqua J1, North Lakeland, Northland Pines, Phelps, Phillips, Prentice, Rhinelander, Three Lakes, Tomahawk, Wabeno Area, White Lake and Woodruff J1.
