Youth sports roundup: Sept. 21
The James Williams Middle School cross country team hosted an invite Sept. 12 on the Rhinelander High School cross country trails and took home individual titles in both the boys' and girls' races. Brad Quade won the boys' race in a time of 12 minutes, 5 seconds. Alyana Franson won the girls' race in a time of 13:03.
The JWMS boys' won the team competition, placing seven runners in the top 13. Bridger Flory finished second overall, two seconds behind Quade. Markus Johnson (fifth, 12:34), David Peterson (eighth, 13:24), Daniel Ritchie (10th, 14:04), Jack Kovac (11th, 14:10) and Konnor Kennedy (13th, 14:34) rounded out the scoring for the Hodags.
The JWMS girls' finished second behind D.C. Everest. Claire Bowman (10th, 14:46), Maddie Meyer (18th, 15:30), Brooke Mork (19th, 15:36), Emilee Pontell (24th, 15:55), Ashley Croner (29th, 16:33) and Mattia Beske (44th, 18:24) rounded out the scoring.
The JWMS harriers traveled to Nine Mile Forest in Rib Mountain Tuesday for the D.C. Everest Invite. The Hodag boys placed fourth out of 14 teams. Quade finished seventh overall and Flory was eighth. Both crossed the line in 11:59. Johnson (12:50), Peterson (13:44), Ritchie (13:47), Kovac (14:01) and Elijah Olson (14:48) rounded out the Hodags' top seven.
Franson finished fourth overall in the girls' race (12:54) as the Hodags took ninth overall. Bowman (15:15), Meyer (15:17), Mork (15:23), Pontell (16:05), Croner (16:31) and Beske (18:43) made up the rest of the team's top seven.
Rhinelander middle school soccer teams defeat Ben Franklin, split with D.C. Everest
The Rhinelander Middle School boys soccer defeated Ben Franklin Junior High School 8-0 Tuesday. Noah Suggs earned a shutout in goal with six saves. Joseph Schmitz had a hat trick and two assists. Jonas Sabani and Freddy Wisner each had two goals and an assist. Gavin Wallmow, Quinn Werner, Richey Triplett, and Adam Bloom each earned an assist.
The girls' soccer team earned a 4-0 win over Ben Franklin. Jada Appling earned a shutout with five saves. Anna Sturzl and Izzy Haverkampf each scored two goals. Claire Arbuckle had two assists. Jaden Olski and Kenedy Van Zile each earned an assist.
The Hodags hosted D.C. Everest Thursday, splitting two games. The boys lost 5-2 to the Evergreens. Sabani had a goal and an assist. Schmitz also scored. The girls routed Everest 7-1. Sturzl had two goals and two assists. Haverkampf added two goals. Arbuckle had a goal and two assists. Gwen Frederickson and Alyana Franson also scored. Abby Oettinger, Olski and Van Zile recorded assists.
