Rhinelander Swim Club starts fast at Lakeland

The Rhinelander Swim Club started its season with a second-place finish Nov. 9 at the Lakeland Sprints Invitational. Sixty-nine of the club's 111 members made the trip to Minocqua to participate.

All returning swimmers improved in at least of one of their individual events. Maria Heck, 9, improved 10.21 seconds in the 25-yard breaststroke for a new personal-best time of 28.26 seconds. Trevor Marvin, 11, dropped 9.82 seconds in the 25 freestyle (21.61) and 9.69 seconds in the 25 backstroke (31.07). Annalyse Schoppe, 8, dropped 9.88 seconds in the 25 breaststroke (30.55). Liana Teter, 9, improved 10.17 seconds in the 25 freestyle (19.66) and 12.24 seconds in the 25 butterfly (25.89).

RSC put together 19 relay teams for this meet. All of the teams placed in the top 10 and the Hodags scored five relay victories.

RSC travels to Antigo today for its first conference meet of the season.
