The Rhinelander Basketball Association eighth-grade girls' basketball team finished first and the RBA seventh-grade girls finished second this past weekend in a home basketball tournament at the Jim Miazga Community Gym.

The eighth-grade team faced Medford in its first game, and came out strong winning 33-9. Game 2 was the closest an opponent came to catching the Hodags. Rhinelander downed Phillips 29-16. Rib Lake was the Hodags' third opponent and they pulled out with a 43-17 victory. The team ended the day by downing Northland Pines 44-21.

The RBA eighth-grade team is 7-1 on the season after going 3-1 and taking second place Nov. 2 in a tournament at Antigo.

The only game the seventh graders lost was against a tough Merrill team, 43-18. The Hodags started with a 40-19 win over Marathon, defeated Medford 29-10 and edged past Wittenberg Birnamwood 34-8.

The eighth-grade girls' next tournament will be held on Nov. 23 in Edgar. The seventh graders will play at Wausau West Dec. 14.
