RHS English teacher arrested in connection with theft investigation
By By River News Staff-
According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, a state search warrant was executed Wednesday at 4107 Bass Lake Loop Road in the Town of Pine Lake. During the execution of the warrant police located an indoor marijuana grow and items believed to be stolen.
As a result of the search warrant, Joshua D. Juergens, 35, was arrested on numerous charges.
A press release announcing the arrest did not list the charges but noted that Juergens is expected to appear in Oneida County Circuit Court Friday.
The release states Dave Wall, assistant superintendent with the School District of Rhinelander, wishes to inform parents, students and community members that district officials are working very closely with Oneida County Law Enforcement on this matter.
"At this time, we have no information that would lead us to believe that the actions of this teacher, that are concerning to administration, involve other people," Wall said. "The actions of concern may involve school property. We have no information at this time that leads us to believe that the safety of students or staff members were ever in jeopardy."
"As more information becomes known, and can be shared with the public, it will be shared," Wall added.
In a separate incident, Juergens was arrested Tuesday following a domestic disturbance at his Pine Lake residence. According to the criminal complaint in that case, a woman called Oneida County dispatch reporting that Juergens pushed her and she fell back onto a couch after she entered the residence to retrieve the keys to her vehicle. Juergens missed a scheduled court appearance Wednesday on a charge of disorderly conduct. He appeared in court Thursday and a judge continued a $500 cash bond that had been set.
According to online court records, Juergens has two previous convictions. In 1997, he was convicted of possession of THC (a misdemeanor) in Marathon County. In 2011, he was convicted of disorderly conduct (an ordinance violation) in Dane County.
Juergens was included in a group photo published by the River News in August of new teachers hired for the 2013-'14 school year.
A call to Wall seeking more information about Juergens' employment status with the school district has not yet been returned.
