Rhinelander AD LaHam will not return for 2013-14
A source told the River News Wednesday that the School District of Rhinelander Board of Education made a decision regarding LaHam's future during a closed session discussion May 20.
In an email to district employees Wednesday afternoon, LaHam confirmed he is leaving his post. He characterized his departure as a "voluntary agreement."
"I would like to take this opportunity to inform all staff that I will not be returning for the 2013-2014 school year," LaHam said in the email. "The School Board and I have reached a voluntary agreement that provides me the opportunity to move on to new adventures. My last official day will be June 12."
LaHam added that he has offered to help in the transition process as Rhinelander searches for a new AD.
Several school officials contacted by the River News Wednesday either declined to comment or did not return messages.
District spokesperson Kim Swisher offered the following statement: "I have not received final confirmation but what I've heard is they are not renewing his contract."
Shortly before noon, Superintendent Dr. Roger Erdahl said the district was discussing the matter with legal counsel. An attorney for the district later called the River News and advised the district would not comment unless the newspaper made a written request for information.
A written request was delivered to district officials Wednesday afternoon.
LaHam replaced Justin Szews as AD in August 2008 after spending several years as an assistant coach for RHS football and boys' basketball.
