Rhinelander wrestlers compete at regionals
Rhinelander took home six regional championships. Former state champions Dante Steinmetz and Payton Hartman won regionals titles along with Gavin Ostermann, Colton Krueger, Jacob DeMeyer and Alec Bess. Richie Whitford and Alex Krutz also made it to state thanks to runner-up showings in their divisions.
Steinmetz, DeMeyer and Bess will be making their fifth trips to state. Hartman and Kurtz qualified for state for the fourth time. Whitford, Ostermann and Krueger will be heading to state for the first time.
Cole Price and Jesse Mahner just missed out on state, finishing third in their divisions. Walker Hartman, Eric Grulke and Tyler Olson (sixth grade) finished fourth.
Tyler Olson (first grade), Tim Fox, Isaac Bixby, Alex Huff, Kyle Kuester, Josh Randolph, Alex Monk, Alec Modrow and Scott Fox also competed.
The state tournament will be held March 22-23 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
