Nicolet College Information Technology Department hosts open house
"Of course we want people to come to this school and get a good education, but really, it's also just a general education event, too," said Ethan Blue, IT Instructor at Nicolet. "If people just want to come and learn about the opportunities in IT and the different facets of IT, we're more than happy to just discuss those types of things as well."
Visitors to the open house were treated to a tour of the IT lab and shown all of Nicolet's hardware and networking equipment. Additionally, work done by Nicolet students, such as custom software, video games and business programs, was presented.
"It's not only an overview of IT but also showing off student work and what students can learn when they join the program at Nicolet," said Blue.
Nicolet's IT department offers six certificate programs, including Cisco Certified Network Associate, Database Management, Desktop Support Technician, Home Technology Integration, Mobile Applications Development and Simulation and Game Programing
The department also has two two-year associate of applied science degree programs, Computer Support Specialist and Web Analyst/Programmer. These degrees often result in careers as computer support specialists, help-desk technicians, network administrators, web programmers and web designers, among other careers.
Potential students were given all the information they needed to enroll at Nicolet, including course offering descriptions and tuition information.
Blue also extended an open invitation to any community members who would like to learn more about Nicolet's IT program or IT in general.
"Whether you're interested in being a student or not, any time anyone in the community is interested in learning about IT or learning opportunities, or even if they want to call in and sit in on a class, we're open to that," he said. "We really are here to serve the community."
